Definition
Manual therapy is part of manual medicine performed by a therapist, and based on the teachings of biomechanics and reflex known to treat the dysfunction of movable organs with reflective effects. It includes the active and passive stretching of shortened muscular and neural structures, the strengthening of weakened antagonists and the mobilisation of joints through translational movement of the joint.
Aims of the therapy
The aims of a manual therapy are, similarly to physiotherapy treatment, pain relief and mobilisation.
Medical indication
- Akuten oder chronischen Bewegungseinschränkungen
- Schmerzen des Bewegungsapparates
- Wirbelsäulenbeschwerden
- Behandlungen nach Operationen des Bewegungsapparates z.B. Knie-Tep, Kreuzbandriß, Meniscusschaden etc.
- Zustand nach Bandscheiben Operationen
- Muskel – und Sehnenverkürzungen
- Epicondylitis (Tennis- oder Golferarm)
- Achillodonie
- Myogelosen
